AsiaWorld-Expo signs up major new specialist fairs amid healthy growth
Our prime MICE venue next to the airport, AsiaWorld-Expo, has recently signed a contract with Global Sources to introduce two new specialist trade fairs catering to Medical & Health Products and Solar & Energy-Saving Products, as well as to extend the hosting of the current series of China Sourcing Fairs up to 2014. Numerous other recurrent trade fairs like the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress, and CARTES in Asia among many others have also undergone significant expansion at AsiaWorld-Expo, signifying it is one of the region's top MICE venues.


HKCEC welcomes 31 new exhibitions and conferences
The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre welcomes 2011 with seven brand new exhibitions and 24 international and regional conferences scheduled in the year. Agriculture trade fair finds rich pickings in Asia hub
As a net importer of foodstuffs and springboard to China and the international market, Hong Kong proved to be the perfect venue for AgriPro Asia Expo (APA) 2010, held from 13-15 December at HKCEC. This foremost agricultural trade fair attracted 1,900 attendees from 28 countries & regions and covered a comprehensive range of agricultural products.

Apart from doing good business, traders were able to update themselves on the latest market trends from key international experts speaking at the Agricultural Conference Asia (ACA). Following the resounding success of the event, AgriPro Asia will return to HKCEC at the end of November with an expanded fair.

Asia Pacific internet chiefs network in record numbers
Building on its reputation as one of the leading internet hubs in Asia Pacific, Hong Kong hosted by far the largest internet conference in the region, APRICOT–APAN 2011, which brought together for the first time the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies and the Asia Pacific Advanced Network.

Attendance broke the record. More than 1,400 key internet builders from over 60 economies, including three of the world’s top internet gurus as keynote speakers, attended the event held from 15-25 February. Many of the conclusions will have a huge impact on peoples’ lives.

This historic joint meeting of the two events in Hong Kong exemplified the collaborative spirit of the Asia Pacific internet community and builds the foundation for future joint efforts among the community.


Cardiologists heartened by fruitful meeting of minds
Initiated by the Hong Kong College of Cardiology and the Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, the biennial medical congress CardioRhythm 2011 received an overwhelming response from heart specialists worldwide.

Held from 25-27 February, this was the third congress in Hong Kong since 2007 and attracted 2,000 delegates and over 300 faculty members from both local and overseas universities. The high-level conference featured 200 speakers and 100 sessions of lectures, case presentations and workshops focusing on the full spectrum of heart ailments and treatments.

An exhibition showcasing the latest products, equipment and educational materials in the treatment of cardiac diseases was also held in conjunction with the conference.


New Kowloon venue offers sky-high attractions
Fantastic new venues for MICE activities and functions are set to open in April – and they’re all located at the International Commerce Centre (ICC Tower), sky-high! Soaring 490 metres above Kowloon MTR station, ICC is the tallest building in Hong Kong and the third tallest in the world. The new landmark features observation deck, the world’s highest 5-star hotel and fine restaurants serving Chinese, Japanese and Asian cuisine.

Located on the 100th floor of ICC, Sky100 is the highest indoor observation deck in Hong Kong, covering 2,800 square metres and offering a mesmerizing 360-degree view of Kowloon, Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island from 393 metres above sea level.

Visitors can also admire the spectacular view while indulging in delectable food and wine at the fine restaurants on the 101st floor.

Soaring from the 102nd to 118th floor, The Ritz-Carlton makes a welcome return to Hong Kong with its 312 rooms and six dining venues, plus an alfresco rooftop bar for the top-most views of the city.
Come dine with the fish at Ocean Park
A must on any itinerary is to dine at Neptune’s Restaurant, Hong Kong’s first aquarium dining experience, where you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the Grand Aquarium’s main tank – Ocean Park’s latest attraction. The restaurant offers all-day international dining featuring a range of innovative signature dishes, bento sets and healthy stone-cooked meals that promote sustainable seafood options in support of a diverse and healthy marine ecosystem.

MICE groups of 160-200 pax can charter the restaurant after 2pm for HK$600 net per person. A VIP room is also available for groups of 10-24 pax, priced at HK$8,800 net per lunch or dinner session. For function room or Lagoon Kiosk, the charter rate is HK$600 net per person for 100-350 pax.

Learn the art of three-star Cantonese cooking
Renowned as the 'Culinary Capital of Asia', Hong Kong now boasts a number of Michelin-starred restaurants including the 3-star Chinese restaurant, Sun Tung Lok. Now MICE groups can join a cooking class led by the restaurant’s Executive Chef, who will demonstrate the techniques, tips and tricks to create perfect Cantonese cuisine. The 1.5-hour programme costs HK$700 per person for groups of 12-20, and includes two dishes or desserts.

Giant balloon provides bird’s-eye view of harbour
MICE visitors can now enjoy an alternative flying experience aboard the DHL Hong Kong Balloon which offers breathtaking rides 100 metres above the West Kowloon Waterfront. Groups of up to 30 people can take a 15-minute ride for HK$4,500 during daylight and HK$7,500 after dark when the cityscapes surrounding Victoria Harbour sparkle into life.

The waterfront promenade overlooking Hong Kong Island also makes an ideal venue for MICE events and activities. Groups of up to 250 people can hire a marquee for HK$20,000 per hour on weekdays and HK$30,000 per hour on weekends and public holidays.

Trade partners expand horizons at AIME
HKTB took a prominent role at February’s Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo (AIME) in Melbourne to introduce 24 trade partners from Hong Kong. We also sponsored the hosted buyer lounge, buyer competition, on-stand cocktail reception and destination appointment desks to drive extra MICE business to Hong Kong in the years ahead.
American and European groups find inspiration in HK
36 potential M&I buyers from North America, the UK, France and Germany joined MEHK familiarisation visits in January and February to learn about Hong Kong’s major incentive offerings, special venues and team-building activities. MEHK also incorporated a half-day business session into each programme as an effective platform for over 40 trade partners to gain insight of latest market trends and secure extra MICE business from these strategic markets.



Cultural celebrations offer fun and spectacle
Join the locals as they celebrate the traditional festivals of Hong Kong and experience the city's fascinating living culture! The Cheung Chau Bun Festival (7-11 May) is a folk tradition unique to Hong Kong. This week-long celebration features a spectacular parade of children dressed up as mythological Chinese characters, as well as a bun tower scrambling competition where contestants clamber up a 14-metre-high ‘blessed bun tower’.

There are also events marking the birthdays of important deities such as Tin Hau (25 April) and Tam Kung (10 May) as well as a religious festival celebrating the birth of the Lord Buddha (10 May).
