First-Ever Virtual MICE Business Matching Platform in the Mainland Receives Overwhelming Response
In view of face-to-face trade events being hindered during the pandemic, MEHK creatively developed a series of three interactive webinars on 16–18 June 2020 and introduced a newly launched innovative online MICE business matching platform. The event received an overwhelming response with around 1,500 views from attendees of Mainland corporate clients, association members and MICE agents, as well as Hong Kong travel trade and media representatives.
The innovative and easy-to-use platform is designed to facilitate a continuation of MICE business development during the pandemic. Trade partners that have joined the MEHK’s MeetON@HongKong programme have promoted their business and products including special offers on the webinar, followed by scheduling individual business appointments with potential buyers on the platform. The launch of the virtual platform is a huge success, as it engaged an encouraging number of around 500 trades and Mainland buyers on a single online platform; for business online matching sessions, more than 1,300 appointments have been scheduled as of end of August 2020.
As hybrid work models and online tools are becoming more important for business engagement under the pandemic-induced new norms, the platform serves as an effective alternative to conventional physical trade activities. “Through this platform, Mainland buyers can obtain the latest MICE products and offerings of Hong Kong and engage with a great variety of Hong Kong travel trade for different MICE events 24/7, immune to coronavirus threats,” said Zoe Lo, Regional Director, Mainland, Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB).
