MEHK in Action: HKTB in joint actions to spur tourism and business momentum

Hong Kong secured two major technology events to be held in 2022 – the very first Greater Bay Area Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Conference 2022 (GBAAIR Conference), and IEEE Region 10 Conference 2022 (TENCON), which was last held in the city in 2006.

The two conferences are expected to act as a magnet for leading industry experts, strengthening the city’s position as a pivotal innovation and technology (I&T) hub. Conference organisers paid tribute to the Hong Kong Convention Ambassador (HKCA) programme initiated by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), which helped them decide on the best location. 

GoGBA Day

HKTB took part in the inaugural GoGBA Day, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office on 22 September to encourage members of the international business community in Hong Kong to capture GBA opportunities. Response to the hybrid event was enthusiastic, with more than 160 participants attending in person and 260 participants from around the world joined in online.Kenneth Wong, General Manager of HKTB MICE & Cruise division, was invited to be one of the industry leaders to share about HKTB’s tourism recovery framework that supports recovery, reopening and rebranding of Hong Kong’s tourism industry, as well as the huge benefits that business events in Hong Kong could enjoy riding on GBA development.

Investment Promotion Week

As part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Invest Hong Kong’s Investment Promotion Week was held in a hybrid format from 17 to 21 October, with over 120 speakers sharing insights and experience in their respective areas, ranging from financial and professional services, innovation and technology industries to lifestyle and creative industries.

He offered a glimpse of HKTB’s initiatives to reinforce Hong Kong’s image as a top destination in Asia, saying, “HKTB will continue to work with the Government and the travel trade to drive industry revival and roll out a new tourism brand to tell good stories of Hong Kong through tourism.

Upon the release of the Policy Address by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee on the same day reiterating strong government support for MICE tourism, Dane also outlined some MICE recovery initiatives, including drawing A-list international events for image-rebuilding and developing new themed itineraries for destination experience enhancement. He also extolled the tremendous business opportunities that Hong Kong has to offer with the bureau’s “Meet Hong Kong ‧ Meet GBA” campaign.
