15th International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology 2022

The 15th International Convention on Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (i-CREATe 2022), held on 26-28 August 2022 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, gathered some 200 occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and tackle the challenges of ageing, under the theme “Enabling All with Assistive Technology”.

i-CREATe 2022 provided an international platform of conference, Global Student Innovation Challenge, and exhibition featuring innovative technology, equipment, applications, techniques and materials applied in the field of assistive and rehabilitative technology. It was also a stage for global technical exchanges to share ideas and best practices in the disabilities field.

The hybrid event facilitated professional exchange through round-table discussions, workshops, poster presentations, and pre- and post-conference short courses.

As a Hong Kong Convention Ambassador, I’m proud to bring i-CREATe to Hong Kong for the first time with the great support of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The success of the conference welcomed a new era of rehabilitation with assistive technology, backed by the recent advancement of the Internet of Things, smart technology, artificial intelligence and rehabilitation robots.

Despite the impact of COVID-19, i-CREATe 2022 went very smoothly with the incredible hybrid setup and the city’s excellent adaptiveness, leading digital infrastructure and in-person operational efficiency, especially the event’s annual iconic activity, the Global Student Innovation Challenge (gSIC). The seamless operation allowed local and overseas participants to join in and see very innovative prototypes that address the needs of people with disabilities.
